"I Never Can" is the first of three short films that comprise the "I Never" Trilogy. The narrative follows Matt, a troubled young man unable to escape the demons of his past. In this first film, inspired by Lafcadio Hearn's "The Reconciliation," Matt tries to sneak out on his girlfriend, Jenny, but is unprepared for just what's in store for him when he returns home.
Cast
“I Never Can lingers. It has depth. It's an impressionistic film, told in scattered pieces… Jon Cates and Mig Windows perform admirably as the tormented man and ghostly girlfriend, lending emotional depth to the film's weighty themes….Rory Owens's somber lighting helps set the dark tone, with a splash of primary colored lights to suggest the supernatural. The melancholy background music (if it can be called music) is a further assist. That it was taken from Freesounds.org proves yet again that high art can be achieved on a low budget.”

This is the story version of an early short film of mine. I was pretty happy with how our film turned out, but writing it as a short story allowed me to explore the inner thoughts of the protagonist and go to some even spookier places.
